Ghana’s rising sprint star Abdul-Rasheed Saminu delivered a sensational performance to finish second in a fiercely contested men’s 100m final, clocking 10.01 seconds.

The race, run under a light wind of +0.4 m/s, was won by Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in 9.95 seconds, with Saminu sharing the second-place mark with South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who also recorded 10.01 seconds. Ackeem Blake of Jamaica followed in 10.04 seconds, Ronnie Baker of the USA in 10.05 seconds, Kadrian Goldson of Jamaica in 10.08 seconds, Rohan Watson of Jamaica in 10.12 seconds, Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya in 10.26 seconds, and Dominik Illovszky of Hungary in 10.40 seconds.

Saminu’s performance not only underlines his status as one of Africa’s top sprinters but also moves him closer to breaking the magical sub-10-second barrier—a milestone that would etch his name into Ghanaian athletics history.
