David Nakousi and Reina Tuolong Victorious In Maiden Tizza Marathon
David Nakousi and Reina Tuolong were victorious in the first edition of the Tizza Marathon, which took place over the weekend, Saturday, 19th April, 2025, in the Jirapa Municipality. In the women’s category, athletes competed in a 10 km race, which started near St. Francis of Assisi Senior High School and ended at the Tizza JHS Park. The men competed in a 21.1 km race, starting from Dapouri and also finishing at the Tizza JHS Park.
Athletes from across the country, along with a few international participants, took part in this inaugural event. Most of the competitors were university students.
Winners – Women’s 10 km Race:

Tuolong Reina of High Morale Athletics Club secured first place with a time of 39:36.61.

Asakiyaaba Joana, also from High Morale, finished second with a time of 40:11.42.

Balbulweri Felicia, a student from UDS in Tamale, came third with a time of 40:36.11.
Winners – Men’s 21.1 km Race:

Nakousi David of High Morale Athletics Club, and a student at the University of Ghana, Legon, won with a time of 01:11:33.68.

Kwarteng Emmanuel from Jackie Pramso Senior High School in the Ashanti Region placed second with 01:11:47.54.

Seidu Abdul-Bashiru of UCC finished third with a time of 01:12:55.98.
The race was well-organised and went smoothly, with no injuries or incidents reported.
Dignitaries who graced the event included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Peter To’ Ang, the Municipal Police Commander ASP Bright Acquah, the Upper West Regional Head of the National Sports Authority Mr. Bilugio Johnbosco, as well as chiefs and elders of the community. Notably, the police commander actively participated in ensuring the safety of the athletes, personally helping control traffic—a rare and commendable sight.
The organizer of the Tizza Marathon expressed gratitude to the Tizza Sports Development Committee and Coach Boniface for their hard work in making the event a success. He also promised an even more exciting second edition.
