Ghana Athletics Inaugurate Coaches and Athletes Commissions

 

Ghana Athletics has officially inaugurated its Coaches and Athletes Commissions during a ceremony held at the Ghana Athletics Secretariat in Accra. The event was graced by key officials, including the First Vice President of Ghana Athletics, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, who congratulated the newly appointed athletes and coaches on their roles.

 

 

In his address, Mr. Asibey urged the commissions to uphold the brand and reputation of Ghana Athletics by steering clear of internal politics that could harm the sport. He also tasked the Coaches Commission with gathering data on athletes nationwide to aid in building a comprehensive database for Ghana Athletics.

 

 

Atiah Koogo, Secretary of the Athletes Commission, welcomed the responsibilities ahead and pledged to work collaboratively with coaches and leadership. He voiced concerns about the centralized competition calendar, which predominantly favours Accra, and advocated for more events in other regions to promote inclusivity.

 

 

Meanwhile, Georgina Sowah, Chairperson of the Coaches Commission, outlined the commission’s objectives, including collecting data on coaches, organizing educational programs, and inviting specialists to enhance the performance and well-being of both coaches and athletes.

 

 

The Athletes Commission members are:

  • Chairman: Emmanuel Appiah Kubi
  • Vice Chairman: Atiah John
  • Secretary: Atiah Koogo
  • Organizer: Roland Harding
  • Treasurer: Ebenezer Kumah

 

The Coaches Commission members are:

  • Chairperson: Georgina Sowah
  • Vice Chairman: Yakubu Gausu
  • Secretary: Akuka William
  • Organizer: Eric Nana Owusu Obeng
  • Treasurer: Gyabo Kwasi Victor

 

With the establishment of the Athletes and Coaches Commissions, Ghana Athletics has taken a significant step toward its vision of driving growth, development, and excellence in athletics. These bodies are set to work collaboratively, ensuring a brighter future for the sport across the nation.
