Although Kudanu’s initial goal was to secure a podium finish, he expressed pride in his achievement, citing the tough weather conditions and hilly terrain as factors that impacted his performance.
“The weather was good in the morning, but it’s similar to the weather in the northern part of Ghana,” Kudanu said in a post-race interview with Richportal TV. “I was targeting the Ghanaian Marathon Record, but the last 5km was very tough due to the hilly nature of the route. I’ll try again in the future.”
Kudanu’s teammate, Seidu Salifu, also put in a spectacular performance, finishing 7th overall in a time of 2:28:38. The Ghana Armed Forces Athletics Team has thus far secured two medals at the games.
The current Ghana Marathon Record, held by Emmanuel Amo, stands at 2:18:43, set on November 11, 1990, in Lagos, Nigeria. Kudanu’s performance has undoubtedly brought him closer to achieving his goal of breaking this long-standing record.
