GMTF Mandates Certification for All Road Running Events in Ghana
The Ghana Mountain and Trail Federation (GMTF) has issued a stern directive requiring all road running events within the country to obtain official certification from the Federation. The announcement, made public today, Saturday, 15th March 2025, underscores the GMTF’s efforts to regulate athletic competitions and ensure adherence to national standards.
Strict Guidelines for Event Organizers
Race organisers are now obligated to seek GMTF approval before hosting any event. Failure to comply will result in serious repercussions, including accountability for organisers and penalties for participating athletes. The GMTF emphasised that athletes competing in unsanctioned races risk ineligibility for future events or even a ban from representing the national team.
“We urge all stakeholders—race organisers, coaches, and athletes—to treat this directive with urgency,” stated Moro Salifu, General Secretary of the GMTF. “Certification ensures safety, fairness, and alignment with Ghana’s sporting objectives.”
Certified Races to Be Published Online
To promote transparency, the GMTF will publish a list of approved races on its official social media platforms:

Call for Compliance
The Federation’s move aims to curb unauthorised events that may compromise athlete welfare or national sporting integrity. To avoid penalties, coaches and athletes are advised to verify event certifications before participation.
