GOC REPORT: 2024 PARIS OLYMPIC GAMES

As you may be aware, Ghana proudly participated in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, an event that brought together athletes from around the world to compete at the highest level. The Ghanaian delegation was led by Mr. Isaac Aboagye Duah, President of the Ghana Tennis Federation and Deputy Treasurer of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), who served as the Chef de Mission (CDM) for the Games.

While Ghana did not secure a place on the medal podium during the 2024 Olympics, the experience was invaluable, providing important lessons that will guide future participation in international competitions. As with any major sporting event, there were challenges, but these served as opportunities for reflection and improvement. Following the Games, the Chef de Mission has made several recommendations and proposals that will be taken into account as we prepare for future Olympic Games and other international competitions. These insights are essential to refining our strategies, ensuring better preparation, and maximizing the potential of Ghanaian athletes on the global stage.

Ghana’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of various institutions and partners. Key contributors included the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), IOC Solidarity grants, the French Embassy in Ghana, Republic Bank, CREPS-Strasbourg, and Horseman Shoes. These partnerships played a crucial role in ensuring the success of Team Ghana’s involvement in the Games.

I would like to extend special gratitude to the French Embassy in Ghana and CREPS-Strasbourg for their exceptional support in providing pre-Games training facilities for Team Ghana. This collaboration ensured that our athletes had access to the resources and environment they needed to prepare adequately for the competition.

Team Ghana at the 2024 Olympics consisted of a total of 21 members, including the Chef de Mission (CDM), eight athletes, three coaches, two team leaders, three medical staff, a media attaché, an accreditation liaison officer, and the President and Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). The cohesion and spirit demonstrated by Team Ghana were commendable, and the team’s participation in the Paris Olympics will serve as a stepping stone for further success in the future.

We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from all stakeholders, whose contributions were instrumental in facilitating our athletes’ participation in this prestigious event. As we reflect on our experiences, the GOC remains committed to fostering an environment of growth and excellence for all Ghanaian athletes, ensuring that we are better equipped for the challenges of future Olympic Games and international competitions.
