GOC REPORT: CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) report on the constitutional review committee. In a bid to ensure that the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) remains aligned with evolving global best practices and to further strengthen the governance and operations of the organization, a Constitutional Review Committee was established. This committee, appointed by Congress, is tasked with reviewing the GOC’s constitution and suggesting necessary amendments to ensure that the organization continues to serve the best interests of Ghanaian sports and its athletes.

The Constitutional Review Committee is composed of a distinguished group of individuals, each bringing their expertise and experience to the table. The committee is chaired by Mr. Richard Akpokovie, who will lead the efforts to analyze and revise the existing constitution. He is supported by Mr. Francis Arthur, who serves as the Secretary of the committee, and other key members, including Elikem Ameku, Peter Zwennes, and Rt Hon. Ken Dzirasah. Together, this team is committed to conducting a thorough review process that reflects the needs and aspirations of all GOC stakeholders.

As part of its work, the committee is currently in the process of collating proposals and feedback from various stakeholders within the Ghanaian sports community. This includes input from member federations, athletes, coaches, and other key figures in the sports sector. The goal is to ensure that the revised constitution reflects a broad consensus and addresses the diverse needs of those involved in the administration of sports in Ghana.

The process involves careful consideration of suggestions and ideas aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of the GOC’s operations. Key areas of focus include governance structures, the roles and responsibilities of member federations, the election process, and the overall alignment of the GOC’s activities with international standards. The committee is also exploring ways to enhance the inclusion of all stakeholders in decision-making processes, ensuring that the GOC remains an open and accessible organization.

Once the proposals are compiled and reviewed, the committee will present its recommendations for approval. The revised constitution will then be submitted to Congress for ratification, after which it will guide the future direction of the GOC and its activities.

The work of the Constitutional Review Committee represents an important step toward reinforcing the governance framework of the Ghana Olympic Committee, ensuring its continued effectiveness in supporting the growth of sports in the country. By ensuring that the GOC’s constitutional framework is fit for purpose, the committee is contributing to a more transparent, accountable, and dynamic organization that will be better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
