How to Prepare Cheese Fritters
Cheese Fritters Recipe.
The Ingredients Needed.
- 125g flour
- 25g butter
- 1¼ cups water
- 4 eggs
- 150g grated cheese (Gruyère or your favorite)
- Parsley (for garnish)
- Salt (to taste)
- Olive oil (for frying)
Instructions on how to prepare cheese fritters.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a pot, bring 1¼ cups of water to a boil, along with the butter and a pinch of salt.
- Once it boils, add the flour all at once and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pot, forming a smooth ball.
- Let the Dough Rest:
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the dough cool for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from forming a skin.
- Add Eggs & Cheese:
- After resting, beat in one egg at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Add the grated cheese of your choice (Gruyère is a great option), along with some chopped parsley for flavor.
- Let the dough rest for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
- Fry the Fritters:
- Heat a large, deep frying pan with plenty of olive oil over medium heat. The oil should be warm, not hot, to prevent the fritters from burning.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the oil, making sure they don’t stick together. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-5 minutes.
- Drain & Serve:
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and drain them on a plate lined with absorbent paper.
- Serve them hot in a bowl, with a side of tomato sauce for dipping if desired.
Tips:
- Make sure to keep the oil at the right temperature to avoid soggy fritters. You can test the oil with a small piece of dough—if it sizzles immediately, it’s ready.
- You can experiment with different cheeses or add herbs like thyme for variation.
