Ghanaian national athlete William Owadie has opened up about his inspiring journey, highlighting the discipline, sacrifice, and determination that have shaped his rising career on the international stage.

From humble beginnings, Owadie revealed that his success did not start on the track but in his mindset. “Starting from scratch, I had a goal I wanted to accomplish, so I began training mentally before physically,” he said. This mental preparation, he explained, laid the foundation for his growth as an athlete.

Owadie’s academic and athletic journey began at Ghana Christian International High School and continued to Ghana Senior High School, where his talent started gaining attention. He later continued balancing his studies with competitive athletics before taking a bold step to further both his education and sporting career abroad. He is currently based at Angelo State University in the United States.

Moving from Ghana to the U.S., however, came with its own challenges. “It wasn’t easy,” he admitted. “Before getting to the USA, I had a lot of things I had to adapt to weather, training programs, culture, food, and all the basic needs of life.” Despite these hurdles, Owadie remains grateful for the journey. “I gave in my all and tried my best, and I’m feeling grateful,” he added.

Balancing academics and sports has been another critical aspect of his life. According to him, success in both areas comes down to discipline. “All I do is time management and also setting goals for academics as well,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of structure and focus.

William Owadie currently holds the title of the fastest indoor 400m athlete in Ghana’s history. He clocked a time of 45.67 seconds at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in the United States.

Representing Ghana on the international stage is a dream come true for the young athlete. “Oh yeah, I have always waited for this moment where I will be competing for my country,” he said with pride.

Looking ahead, Owadie is confident about what lies ahead. “Expect nothing but the best in the outdoor season,” he declared, signaling his readiness to make an impact.

He also paid tribute to the coaches who have played a pivotal role in his development. He praised Dramani Abdul Wahab as a key figure in his journey, while also expressing gratitude to Coach Sulley for his early guidance. “I thank them for being the main reason for my career and achievements,” he said.

With his determination, discipline, and strong support system, William Owadie continues to embody the spirit of a rising Ghanaian star, carrying the hopes of a nation as he strides confidently into the future.
