Report and free match highlights from Wednesday night’s Sky Bet Championship match between Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle at Kenilworth Road. Maksym Talovierov equalized after Jacob Brown gave Luton the lead, although both teams were still in the relegation zone.

Plymouth and Luton, relegation rivals, played off a mediocre 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road that did little to help either team’s chances of avoiding elimination from the Championship.

Jacob Brown gave bottom side Luton a 55th-minute lead, but Maksym Talovierov equalized as both teams remained in the relegation zone.

Hatters manager Matt Bloomfield is still searching for a first victory since replacing Rob Edwards as their miserable winless run extended to 11 matches.

Bloomfield’s men sit two points from safety, with Argyle one point better off with both teams having 13 games to play.

The hosts should have led inside three minutes as Alfie Doughty’s inch-perfect cross was met by January transfer window addition Lasse Nordas, but the Norwegian forward, on his first start, headed over from a few yards out.

Nordas had another crack in the 14th minute after Mark McGuinness’s long throw dropped at his feet, only to see it deflect over the crossbar.

When Callum Wright beat the reluctant Thomas Kaminski to Tymoteusz Puchacz’s pass in the 33rd minute, Plymouth appeared to have taken the lead, but the linesman’s flag was swiftly raised to end the celebrations. According to replays, he might have been level, which would have given the home team a huge advantage.

Luton came quite near at the beginning of the second period when Nikola Katic failed to properly clear Izzy Jones’ cross, and Elijah Adebayo read the ball’s flight but was only able to smash his volley over the top.

With the forward then taken off, his replacement Brown broke the deadlock with his first touch.

Doughty’s cross into the box was nodded down by Nordas for the substitute to beat Hazard to the ball and angle his header into the net, ending Luton’s run of four-and-a-half games without a home goal.

However, Town’s lead was short-lived as Argyle tied the score in 15 minutes. The visitors made the most of the situation when McGuinness was taken off the field for medical attention. They sent in a long cross, which caused tall center-back Talovierov to leap to the top and put his downward header inside the far post.
