Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, declared that “nothing is forever” following Real Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League.
Guardiola has been a huge success for City; the former Barcelona manager has won six Premier League titles and the 2023 European Cup.
But after losing in Madrid on Wednesday, they were eliminated from the domestic title chase due to an injury crisis, and they have now faced the most difficult campaign of his reign.
“Nothing is forever,” commented Guardiola. “We must attempt to improve from now step by step because we have been incredible.
“In the past, we were incredibly exceptional, but that is no longer the case.
“To try to be [in the Champions League] again, we need to finish in the top four or five of the Premier League’s remaining 13 games.”
“The winning team deserved it. They were superior. We must accept the situation as it is and go on.
Erling Haaland, a striker for City, was placed on the replacements’ bench due to injury.
The Norway international did not take part in the warm-up and was not brought on despite his side trailing.
“Erling tried to train,” Guardiola said.
“Apparently with the images we have done he is fine, but he had discomfort walking. He said ‘I am not ready, I don’t feel good’.”
