Abuja, Nigeria – Ghanaian record holder and top-rated athlete, Lariba Sakat Juliana, has won the bronze medal in the women’s 1500m event at the ongoing second edition of the 2024 African Military Games, held at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.

The women’s 1500m final was a closely contested affair, with Ethiopia’s Nuramo Tigist Girma emerging as the winner in a time of 4:23.22 seconds. Kenya’s Spte Cynthia Chepngeno secured the silver medal with a time of 4:25.29 seconds, while Lariba Sakat Juliana took the bronze medal in 4:27.13 seconds.

In a post-race interview with Richportal TV, Lariba Sakat Juliana reflected on the challenges she faced during the competition. “Yes, the race was very tough, but I was determined to be on the podium this time because I missed the 5000m podium. The Ethiopians and Kenyans were very competitive, but I didn’t give them the chance,” she stated.

Lariba Sakat Juliana’s bronze medal win in the 1500m event comes on the heels of her impressive performance in the 5000m event, where she broke the Ghanaian national record with a time of 15:56.72.

The Ghanaian 1500m record in the women’s category is currently held by Agnes Abu, with a time of 4:17.75, set at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, United States of America, on 21 April 2017.

Sakat Lariba Juliana will be competing in her final event in the women’s 4x400m on Saturday, November 30, 2024,  at the same venue, M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, to bring the curtain to an end at the second edition of the African Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
