Cross Internacional de Itálica 2025 Set to Bring World-Class Action to Ancient Roman Grounds
Santiponce, Seville – November 8–9, 2025
The historic ruins of Itálica, cradle of Roman emperors and one of Spain’s most captivating archaeological sites, will once again come alive with the thundering footsteps of elite distance runners as the 43rd Cross Internacional de Itálica takes place on November 8–9, 2025, in Santiponce, near Seville.
Recognized as a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold event, the race remains one of the most prestigious stops on the global cross-country calendar. Each year, it attracts world and Olympic champions from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and across Europe, alongside Spain’s top domestic talent.
A Blend of History and High Performance
Few sporting venues in the world can match the atmosphere of Itálica. The course winds through the ancient Roman amphitheater, cobbled ruins, and grassy fields, offering runners a unique challenge and spectators a visual spectacle that merges sport with history.
“The Cross de Itálica is more than a race—it’s a celebration of culture, endurance, and the timeless beauty of this land,” said organizers from the Diputación de Sevilla, which has overseen the event since its founding in 1982.
Two Days of Competition
This year’s program stretches across two days, featuring a blend of elite and community races.
- Saturday, November 8: The event opens with popular and youth races, including the new night cross—a fresh addition to the schedule that will see hundreds of runners compete under the lights of Itálica’s ancient ruins.
- Sunday, November 9: The world’s best distance runners take the stage for the elite men’s and women’s international races, which are expected to draw a stellar lineup of cross-country stars.
The Andalusian Club Cross-Country Championships will also be held alongside the international races, adding to the weekend’s vibrant competitive spirit.
Open to the Public
Spectators can enjoy the event free of charge, with easy access from nearby Seville. The popular races require advance registration, open from October 1 to October 31, and typically fill up quickly due to high local interest.
Fans around the world will be able to follow the races live via WatchAthletics, with streaming starting at 08:00 GMT on Saturday.
A Tradition That Endures
Since its inception, the Cross Internacional de Itálica has built a reputation for excellence—both in organization and competition. Past champions include legends such as Kenenisa Bekele, Joshua Cheptegei, and Letesenbet Gidey, all of whom have used the event as a proving ground before competing in global championships.
As the 2025 edition approaches, anticipation is mounting for another weekend of fierce competition, historic scenery, and unforgettable performances under the Andalusian sun.
