Ghana’s junior Olympics event marked a significant milestone, bringing together young and ambitious athletes from various parts of the nation. A coach, reflecting on the experience, shared insightful comments about the event, shedding light on the athletes’ dedication and areas needing improvement.

The coach noted, “It was my first time, and the athletes were determined to prove their worth.” This sentiment highlights the strong resolve and competitive spirit that the young athletes brought to the games. Despite the challenges, their focus and commitment underscored their passion for representing Ghana and striving for excellence. The coach’s observation suggests that the event served as a platform for uncovering raw talent and nurturing future stars for the national teams.

The Safoa Athletics Club from Mampong in the Ashanti Region won 2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals in all the events.  Two gold medals were awarded in the U13 long jump and 400m, 1 silver medal was awarded in the U13 400m, and 3 bronze medals were awarded in the U13 long jump, 100m, and 400m. Ali Samba served as the head coach of the Sofoa Athletics Club.

However, the coach also pointed out areas where the event organizers could improve, particularly in providing adequate support for the participants. They remarked, “The organizers should uplift accommodation incentives.” This comment suggests that while the athletes were eager to perform, the infrastructure and resources provided for their stay and comfort fell short of expectations. Enhanced accommodations, such as better lodging facilities, nutritious meals, and supportive amenities, are essential to ensuring that young athletes can perform at their best without unnecessary distractions.

By addressing these concerns, future editions of the Ghana Junior Olympics could become an even more impactful experience for athletes and coaches alike. Such improvements would not only boost morale but also set the stage for Ghana to cultivate world-class talent, preparing these young stars for larger international competitions.
