The 2026 Kwahu Mountain Marathon will be remembered as one of the most exciting editions in the event’s history, highlighted by a dramatic finish in the men’s race. Representing Arrows Athletics Club, Prosper Koomson emerged victorious after a fierce battle, clocking an impressive time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 03 seconds.

Koomson’s victory was hard-fought, as he went head-to-head with a former Ghana half marathon record holder, Ishmael Arthur, pushing each other to the limit throughout the race. In a breathtaking final stretch, Koomson surged ahead at the finish line, winning by a narrow margin and cementing his place among Ghana’s rising long-distance stars.

“The preparation for the race was excellent. When I started the race, I slowed down and moved at the pace of Ishmael Arthur. I know he is my senior, but I have decided that if he does not win, I will win the race. He tested me during the final stage, and I also did not give up,” said Prosper Koomson after winning the 2026 Kwahu Mountain Marathon.

He further stated that this win has motivated him greatly to train more seriously for the upcoming races. “I want to win the next year’s event again,” he added.

The race route, which passed through key landmarks including the iconic Rock City Hotel, tested athletes with its steep climbs and scenic terrain. Beyond the competition, the event featured cultural highlights such as cooking competitions and the presence of queen mothers, adding a rich community atmosphere.

“My preparation for the Kwahu Mountain Marathon was excellent. I have been participating since I was a civilian. The finishing surprised me, and I am confident it won’t happen again,” Ishmael Arthur disclosed.

He shared his experience over the past six years he has been competing in this marathon: “If you can compete in the Kwahu Mountain Marathon, then you can compete in all marathons,” he concluded.

With strong organization, effective security, and growing participation, the 2026 edition proved once again why the Kwahu Mountain Marathon continues to gain national attention.
