Ghana U20 Team Set for World Athletics Championships in Oregon

Ghana U20 Team Set for World Athletics Championships in Oregon

Ghana’s U20 athletics team is set to compete at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA, scheduled from August 5 to 9, 2026, following the successful acquisition of air tickets for the delegation.

According to a statement released by Ghana Athletics, the team will be led by Yaw Boakye Yiadom and feature two promising quarter-milers:

Aishatu Jaffar – Women’s 400m

Godfred Opoku – Men’s 400m

The delegation departed Accra on Sunday, August 2, and is expected to return on Monday, August 10, after the championship.

Ghana Athletics expressed appreciation to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, for facilitating the air tickets, describing his support as instrumental in making Ghana’s participation at the global event possible.

The association noted that the championship presents an important opportunity for the young athletes to gain international experience while proudly representing Ghana on the world stage.

Ghana Athletics has also called on all Ghanaians to rally behind Team Ghana as they compete against some of the world’s brightest young athletics talents.
